Easton, PA, October 16, 2019 - For Immediate Release:
Gallery On Fourth is pleased to present GLENN HARREN: JUST PAINT, a breathtaking exhibition of 26 oil paintings by this Bucks County master. The Gallery will host an Opening Reception on Saturday, October 19 from 6 – 9 PM, featuring light refreshments and the opportunity to meet the Artist. The exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, December 1 with an Open House Reception that day from 12 – 5 PM.
The exhibition’s title JUST PAINT is not a description of the medium. It is Glenn’s mantra, his raison d'être. He says that he is often so consumed with painting that assigning titles to his works is an afterthought; and many of his works remain undated. This singular focus fuels Glenn’s ability to capture the ‘extraordinary aspects’ and ‘simple dignity’ inherent in familiar places and faces. He manifests his vision in works of art that are at once immediate and eternal, personal yet universal. A local vista is transformed into a majestic landscape; an ordinary day at the beach becomes a timeless study in introspection. Anonymous, everyday people – backyard grillers, schoolyard soccer players – become icons of a shared humanity. Working in a manner that is reminiscent of the Pennsylvania Impressionists, John Singer Sargent and Edward Hopper, Glenn’s style is wholly his own. Seen up close, his canvases are an abstract collection of marks and swaths of color. From a distance, the scene, the subject, and the narrative come alive.
“I catch my breath every time I walk into the Gallery,” effuses Gallery Director Lisa Kovacs. “The vibrancy of Glenn’s colors is just stunning. His ability to convey a sense of familiarity in his expansive, unpopulated landscapes, and human connection in figurative works in which people are not interacting is quite moving. We don’t know exactly where we are, but we feel at home. We may be alone in our thoughts, but we are not lonely. As one journalist so eloquently put it, ‘Glenn Harren’s unique take on the human experience produces some of the area’s finest art.’ I couldn’t agree more.”
